Sheikh Abdur Rahman Raliallahu anhu

Sheikh Abdur Rahman Raliallahu anhu is belived to be a companion of Rasoolullahi sallallahu Alaihi wa alihi wasallam. The shrine situated in Galle (Old Galle-Matara road, Kachchu watta). This place has a history of more than 1400 years. Many people visit this Sufi Shrine for blessings. The old masjid opposite the Ziyaram is believed to have been built during hijri 27 ( 648 A.D). It is also reported that Ibn batuta had also visited this beautiful location near the beach and the lagoon.

The walls of this old mosque measures more than 1metre in thickness.During the olden days people used to visit this masjid to wear the Ihram before going to hajj. The original name for this place is called Hajju watta for this reason. The name hajjuwatta, lately transformed to kachchu watta. This junction is very close to the sea and those days people used to travel to hajj pilgrimage from this port just 50metres from this Sufi Shrine. One more important factor to note is that the Tsunami disaster had not affected this ancient Shrine or the masjid opposite the road, although the surrounding structures were damaged badly.
